Linux “Hatchling” - $4.95/month (3 years), $8.95/monthly “Baby” - $7.95/month (3 years), $9.95/monthly “Swamp” - $12.95/month (3 years), $14.95/monthly |
Host Gator’s shared hosting provides a lot of features for a low price. The total disk space and traffic are average and many scripts are provided for blogs, forums, image galleries, web auctions, etc. Host Gator features more scripts and e-commerce options than most shared hosting providers.
Host Gator has multiple web hosting packages, so if you needed to upgrade aspects of your hosting sometime after signing up you’ll only need to switch packages as opposed to looking for a new provider.
What’s good about Host Gator:
- Low monthly fees
- Unlimited Domains (”Baby” and “Swamp”)
- Free setup
- Many scripts and e-commerce features included
- All packages include unlimited MySQL databases, subdomains and FTP accounts
- Unlimited Email accounts on all packages
- Private SSL available on “Baby” and “Swamp”
- Streaming Audio and Video support
- CRON allowed on all packages
- Fantastico Support
- Ruby on Rails
What’s not-so-good about Host Gator:
- Monthly savings only occur if you buy 2 or 3 years of hosting
- No Windows hosting yet
- “Hatchling” only allows 1 domain to be hosted
Host Gator is a good choice for small to large sized sites looking for shared hosting with a large selection of scripts and e-commerce options. Host Gator also has dedicated server packages in case your company out-grows it’s shared hosting package - you won’t need to switch providers.
